Le lumen est le flux lumineux émis dans l'angle solide d'un stéradian par une source ponctuelle uniforme ayant une intensité d'un candela. En d'autre terme, 1 candela = 1 lumen/stéradian
Le lumen est une valeur pondérée du Watt. Le flux lumineux d'une source est calculé en intégrant le flux énergétique spectral ( Watt par unité de longueur d'onde ) pondéré par la courbe CIE de réponse de l'œil ( V(l)). Cette valeur intégrée représente le nombre total de lumens émis par la source.
