Overview
SphereOptics engineers have years of experience designing and manufacturing high value standard and customized luminance and radiance standards. Our Luminance/Radiance integrating sphere systems are microprocessor-controlled instruments with multi-detector monitoring that achieve the highest accuracy available from a sphere-based standard. All standard and custom instruments are calibrated to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) platforms providing precise results when calibrating photometers, radiometers, electronic imaging devices, sensors and camera arrays.
Applications
- Calibration of Photometers and Radiometers
- Calibration for Spectral Radiance and Irradiance
- Calibration and testing of Electronic Imaging Devices
- Calibration of Sensors and Camera Arrays
We are the only manufacturer who can deliver Vacuum-Compatible Radiance Calibration Sources. This is a highly sought after capability for testing and calibration of sensors and cameras that are placed on satellites for natural resource monitoring and weather forecasting because it allows for radiometric calibration under the atmospheric conditions under which they operate.

Luminance/Radiance Systems include:
- High Radiance Systems for remote sensing applications
- Mid-Radiance Systems for Machine Vision and Inspection Applications
- Low-Radiance Systems for Night Vision Applications
- Tungsten-Halogen Systems for UV Radiance Calibration and Lambertian Solar Simulation
- Vacuum-Compatible Radiance Sources for characterization of sensor under vacuum environment
Our L/R System series is available in sphere sizes ranging from 4-inches (10.16cm) to 75-inches (1.90 m) in diameter to accommodate various luminance and radiance output requirements. We offer a selection of variable attenuator assemblies that allow precision control of light entering into a sphere. In turn, the precise input control gives corresponding control of the light level emitted from the sphere port while minimizing color shifts in the output spectrum. Our VA Series Variable attenuators include both manual and automated models.
